Planting of Awaji Island onions has begun!

In Minami Awaji City, planting of Awaji Island onions has started as early as now!
We visited Mr. Tetsushi Hamada's Hamada Farm, a contracted farmer at the roadside station, and heard that the planting had begun.

*This is a rice field for the new Awaji Island winter onion charme, so the planted seedlings are a little bigger.
Today, we are planting

A treasure of the Hama region, this is a very early variety of onion. It is a new type of onion with less pungency and high moisture content. It is a sweet salad onion with little pungency and high water content.
Tekchan plants these short, green onion-like Awaji Island onion seedlings one by one by hand.

They will be planted neatly at 10? intervals.

These thin seedlings grow little by little over the winter, and in the spring they grow into magnificent new onions, which are harvested, delivered to our roadside station, and sold!
