Get an up-close view of the Naruto Strait! Roadside Station Uzushio Guided Tour!

"Roadside Station Uzushio" was featured in the Yomiuri Shimbun!
On the 11th, the “Uzushio Guided Tour,” which offers a close-up view of the Great Naruto Bridge, was held at “Roadside Station Uzushio” (Fukura, Minami-Awaji City) at the southern tip of Awaji Island. The event was part of the “Autumn Uzushio Grand Harvest Festival,” held to commemorate the first anniversary of the station’s reopening following renovations on October 19 of last year. About 20 participants descended a staircase next to the rest area’s facilities to reach a promenade near the water’s edge—an area normally off-limits due to construction. Amid the sound of the surging tide, staff explained that the current reaches speeds of 20 kilometers per hour and that complex natural conditions create the whirlpools, while families eagerly took photos. Daisuke Ikatsu (43), a self-employed resident of Komaki City, Aichi Prefecture, who attended with his family, said, “I was amazed by the sheer power of nature.” Guided tours will also be held at 10:10 a.m. on the 24th and 10:50 a.m. on the 25th, timed to coincide with the spring tide. The participation fee is 300 yen, with each session limited to approximately 20 people on a first-come, first-served basis. The Grand Harvest Festival runs through the 25th, and on the 12th, a fish-catching event (for elementary school students and younger; participation fee: 1,000 yen) will be held from 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. In addition, every day through the 25th, the first 100 people—either island residents or those presenting an event flyer—will receive a free mini soft-serve ice cream. Yuji Miyaji, president of “Uzunokuni Minami-Awaji,” which operates the roadside station, said, “We really hope local residents will come as well.”
