\"Roadside Station Uzushio\" (Fukura, Minami-Awaji City), a tourist facility overlooking the tides of the Naruto Strait, is celebrating the first anniversary of its reopening. The operating company has planned a commemorative event with the aim of \"ensuring both first-time visitors and repeat guests have a good time,\" adding to the festive atmosphere of the fall travel season.
The facility was rebuilt due to deterioration and reopened on October 19 of last year. The circular building is designed to resemble a whirlpool; the first floor features shops selling souvenirs and sweets, while the second floor houses a restaurant serving dishes made with local ingredients. From the rooftop, visitors can enjoy spectacular views of the Naruto Strait and the Great Naruto Bridge. The number of visitors through September of this year was approximately 700,000.
Although visitor numbers were sluggish during the winter, the facility attracted as many as 72,000 visitors in August, partly due to being featured on television programs. According to \u201cUzunokuni Minami-Awaji,\u201d the facility\u2019s operator, sales have increased by 40 percent compared to before the renovation.
\"I want to take on new challenges every day by leveraging our strengths in food and location,\" said President Yuji Miyaji (41). This month, the company has decided to hold a gourmet event titled \"Autumn Uzushio Grand Harvest Festival\" through the 25th.
Limited-time menu items will be available, such as hamburgers featuring Naruto Kintoki sweet potatoes and Naruto lotus root, as well as dessert cups made with Awaji Island strawberries. There will also be Naruto shrimp fishing (on the 11th), a fish-catching event (on the 12th), and a raffle (on the 11th and 12th) that you can enter by presenting receipts from both stores. Residents of Awaji Island will receive a free mini soft-serve ice cream (limited to the first 100 people each day; proof of residency required).
At nearby Fukura Port, the whirlpool sightseeing cruises operated by \u201cJoy Port Awajishima\u201d are also doing well, with 39,000 passengers in August. Joint events were also held this summer, and President Miyaji said, \u201cWe want to energize the entire area so that young people will come and say, \u2018The whirlpools are really cool!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
