Onion harvesting can be seen all over Awaji Island this time of year. It is no wonder that this is the peak harvesting season, and farmers are so busy that they want to help the cat. After the onions are harvested, rice planting awaits in no time. In the 1960s, elementary and junior high schools had shortened agricultural classes (leaving school by noon)...children went straight to the rice paddies when they got home. I miss it (#^. ^#)

Bundling the machine-pulled onions for hanging is done by hand.
They are hung in an "onion hut" unique to Awaji Island, and the natural wind makes them even more delicious...
