On the 3rd, an "onion sowing" of onions and other Awaji Island specialties was held at the observatory of "Roadside Station Uzushio" in Fukura, Minami-Awaji City. About 400 people gathered, cheering and stretching out their hands.

The company that manages the Michi-no-Eki station has been holding this event for the past four years to express its gratitude to visitors by scattering specialty products, in reference to the custom of scattering rice cakes for celebratory occasions.

On this day, 700 onions (size S), Awaji Island oranges, Awaji Island lettuce, and other specialty products were prepared. About 10 staff members wearing onion-shaped wigs sprinkled the onions from the second floor of the facility.

The centerpiece of this year's event was one Awaji Island 3-year torafugu blowfish (worth 12,000 yen). President Toshinori Tobita tossed a stuffed toy torafugu, which could be exchanged for the prize, into the waiting crowd.

The person who caught the stuffed animal was Hiroyuki Kurihara, 54, an office worker in Nagata-ku, Kobe. He said he was visiting the area as a tourist. "It flew right in front of me, so I grabbed it without thinking. It will be a birthday present for my nephew.
